New perks in The Vault, April in review, more case studies, a mini-site and other projects in the works
Discounts for Viktor, Postiz and Meet Slack + other news.
Hey friends,
You know that feeling you get when you visit a country that’s very different to your own and you can’t stop seeing the differences between the two?
Culture shock is a real thing and I’ve had it non-stop this last week while exploring Fukuoka, the first stop on my 8-week Japan trip.
I’m fascinated with culture and seeing how things are done in Japan has really moved me. It’s truly amazing what can be achieved when you have a high-trust society that behaves in a respectful way to one another.
I’ve got another week in Fukuoka before heading to Hiroshima and then onto Tokyo.
In this edition of Justin’s Field Notes, I’m going to cover the following topics:
Share some new perks I’ve recently added to The Vault
A brief summary of April
First look at some of the fun initiatives I have planned for SaaS Decoded
3 new perks now available in The Vault
I recently added 3 new perks to The Vault, taking the total number of perks to 8. I’ve listed them below.
Slite (30% off for 3 months)
Tally (50% off for 3 months)
Digital Ocean ($200 in credit over 60 days)
Google Workspace (10% off your first year)
Mercury ($250, after deposit 10k USD within 90 days)
New additions:
Viktor ($50 off first subscription) [Enter JUSTIN50OFF on checkout]
Postiz (50% off for 3 months) [Enter SAASDECODED on checkout]
Meet Slack (50% off forever) [Enter SAASDECODED on checkout]
Viktor
Viktor is an agentic AI agent that lives in Slack. I’ve covered Viktor previously in the following posts:
I’ve been using Viktor more and more and I really wanted to include it in The Vault. After some back and forth with the Viktor team, a change was made to their affiliate program where new signups from my link get $50 off their subscription. Make sure you enter the coupon JUSTIN50OFF on checkout.
Postiz
Postiz is a social media scheduling tool that is taking advantage of the agentic AI wave. I started hearing more and more about Postiz on X and decided to give it a try.
I had previously failed to connect Buffer, a popular competitor to Postiz, to Viktor, my agentic agent, which left me frustrated. I managed to connect Postiz to Viktor and I’m now setting up social media posts directly from Slack.
I reached out to Postiz’s founder, Nevo David and worked with him to set up a very generous discount for SaaS Decoded subscribers. SaaS Decoded subscribers can get 50% off their first 3 months of Postiz by signing up and entering SAASDECODED on checkout.
Meet Slack
Meet Slack is a simple Slack app which makes it easy to start and join Google Meet sessions over Slack.
I acquired Meet Slack a few years ago and it’s been my most successful acquisition by far.
Meet Slack has a generous 60 day trial but if you decide to continue using it after your trial ends, you can simply enter SAASDECODED on checkout and get 50% off your subscription for the lifetime of the subscription.
To take advantage of the new perks, click on the links above, signup and enter the promo code (where relevant). To take advantage of the earlier perks, visit the post below.
April in review
April was a good month for SaaS Decoded.
In total I published 4 posts:
By far my favorite was the deep dive post on Tally’s journey to $5M ARR. I learnt a ton writing that post and had a lot of of fun. I want to write more case study style posts since I think they are very useful for learning tangable lessons.
In terms of growth, SaaS Decoded grew from 81 to 95 subscribers.
As you can see from the screenshot above, growth in April was better than in March but we dealing with very low numbers which isn’t great.
I’ll be making some adjustments this month to my growth strategy which I’m hoping will bare fruit. I’m grateful for every subscriber I gain but the growth of the subscriber base is simply too slow. I have some theories as to why and will be testing them in May.
What’s in the works
I’m working on a few fun initiatives for SaaS Decoded which I plan to share in more detail in the weeks ahead.
A mini-site for The Vault: As The Vault continues to grow, I need to make it easy to access the perks in the program. A mini-site with email verification should do the trick.
A new series where I build a SaaS from scratch and take it to $500 MRR: This will be a big project that still requires a ton of thought and execution before I can start writing about it but its a project I’m excited to start.
An in depth post covering Japan’s startup scene: One of my goals for my Japan trip is to meet entrepreneurs and get to know the local tech scene. I’ve started to meet some local operators and I’m looking forward to learning more.
More deep dive case study posts: Covering Tally’s story was a lot of fun and I want to write more similar posts. Moving forward I want to write at least one case study post a month. Who should I cover next?
100 subscriber milestone post: Once the newsletter hits 100 subscribers I’ll publish a dedicated post to highlight the milestone. I think it’s important to stop occassionally and celebrate certain milestones. It not only helps with motivation but also shares the reality of building a newsletter business. I want to be able to look back and see the story behind what I’ve built.
That’s it for this week’s post.
Thanks for reading and your continued support of SaaS Decoded.
Justin
